Fairmont pledges $10K and more to High School ag garden

November 16, 2011

Fairmont CARES, a charitable foundation of Fairmont Hotels, including the Sonoma Mission Inn, has committed to “partnering” to the tune of $10,000 to Sonoma Valley High School’s Agriculture Department for development of the school’s agricultural programs, including the vegetable garden, orchard, vineyard, and animal husbandry programs.

The money will be paid over the next two years, according to Michelle Heston, Regional Director of Public Relations for Fairmont Hotels. Heston says that, in addition to this commitment, the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn has scheduled a Winemaker Dinner with Bruce Cohn of B.R. Cohn Winery on Thursday, Jan. 26 to benefit the Ag program and will distribute information on the dinner widely to raise as much more money as possible.

Heston is also organizing “Promo Days” in the Fairmont’s Big 3 restaurant whereby a percentage of proceeds will be donated to the Ag Department over specified dates. Watch this space for updates.  In my other role as Sonoma School Garden Project Director, I say “Thank you enormously” from Sonoma Valley’s students.
